Just a few things I have been meaning to mention, so am taking the 5 minutes now whilst the children are in bed to do so! Firstly, after many months of viewing samples and products, I have finally decided on two new yummy products to introduce to the studio�s Fine Art collection, secondly, there has been a restructure to my pricing system. Baby Chase-10 Days New | Melbourne Newborn and Baby Photographer

It has been SO long between blog posts, but here I am, back with another gorgeous Newborn Session! As in all professions, I believe it is important to continue to learn and grow. I had been feeling a little like I needed to extend my Newborn photography skills some, so begged Gemma from Iris Creations Photography to mentor me by coming along with me on a Newborn shoot. I cannot tell you how much of an honour it was to be shooting along side someone as skilled as Gemma is in handling and posing Newborns. I learnt so many new tips and tricks that I cannot wait for my next Newborn booking in August! Now, it is important to point out that Gemma was soley responsible for the posing of Master Chase, I just got in the way, told bad jokes, and took a couple of photos. Happy Birthday James | Melbourne Baby and Child Photographer

With the cold weather now truly set in, I must admit to totally loving being tucked away inside my nice warm studio for the recent sessions I have blogged. I have had an influx of beautiful little boys of late all turning one. Little boys who have just taken their first steps so therefore do NOT want to sit still. James stole my heart this day as some of his little mannerisms and quirks reminded me so much of my little Koby, who I cannot believe will also be turning one in a fortnight’s time. OK, now if this was a newborn session, I would totally guarantee that there would be no sleeping baby shots. However, give me a ONE year old and voila…instant sleeping baby! James decided he loved the feel of my backdrop so much, to lie down on it and take a quick power break. That shot is my absolute favourite from the session; it reminds me that even though these babies are growing so quickly, they are still so new and precious. Evelyn and Gaia turn ONE | Melbourne baby and child photographer.

I am a little late in blogging these images, so please forgive me if you have been waiting to see these! Evelyn and Gaia had their very special 1^st birthday in May and like all babies who reach this stage of development, they no longer want to sit and pose for the camera…so most of my shots of them from the day are those familiar ‘baby crawling away really quickly’ shots. I truly am amazed that these are the same two tiny newborns I had the pleasure in meeting and photographing a year ago, whilst heavily pregnant myself I might add! My how they have grown and changed. We made a prediction using one of their newborn shots that Gaia would be the cheeky adventurous one and Evelyn would be the quieter, laid back of the two. Were we correct in our guess?? I always receive comments on how beautiful their eyes are – they are HUGE and catch all the light. There is no photoshopping whatsoever involved, that’s just how beautiful their eyes are. Zara - Little Princess, 3 weeks Young | Melbourne Newborn and Family Photographer

I love my job simply because I get to meet the most beautiful and trusting of people. *sigh*. Little Zara arrived on my studio doorstep this chilly, winter's morning and I immediately fell in love. Her hair was so soft and exquisite I just wanted to keep running it over my cheek. Zara decided that sleep was overrated (where have I heard that before?) so we decided to do things her way. She was ever so wide awake and alert BUT boy did she have eyes for her Daddy. I think this little girl has a certain Daddy already wrapped around her finger - just the way it's meant to be. Derek and Narelle, it was such a pleasure meeting you today, Zara is such a joy, thank you for sharing her with me. Chrissy xo

You might think I am completely mad mentioning Christmas in June, however, there is method in this madness! I have just gone over my schedule for September, October and November and noted that there are only a few sessions left available. So, here is my point. If you think you would like to book a session in these months, then it would be better to do so now, rather than later, so you don’t miss out entirely. The deadline for anything needed as Christmas Gifts is November 27^th. If you would like to book a session in any of these months, all you will need to do is email me for dates then send along your $98 ($120 newborns) non-refundable booking fee to secure your date and time. Love'd Up Session 1 - Jodie and Lee | Melbourne Couple's Photographer

Melbourne weather was at its finest today. Rain, wind and more rain, however, my clients and I were very lucky this afternoon that the rain held off for us just long enough for us to shoot the very first ‘Love’d Up’ session! The clouds even parted for a split second to let the sun shine through, just long enough to grab a quick backlit shot. ‘Love’d Up’ sessions are all about re-connecting couples with each other and allowing them the space and time to have some small, special moments together. Lee and Jodie were able to sneak away from their two boys for a short time and just be by themselves. Alone on a windy beach, with just their blanket, their love for each other (and their photographer). Jodie and Lee, thank you for a special afternoon, I hope you love these images! Chrissy xo

I decided this afternoon that cabin fever was running rampant in our house so I bundled the kids into the car and headed out for some fresh air. I found the most perfect little location that I will definitely be using more when the weather begins to warm again in September. Paigey has an obsession with her gumboots, which is a good thing now it’s wet and cold, however, on a 38 degree day, not.so.good. I decided to try and shoot from the hip as well, and play a little bit of chasey, so forgive me if some of these are out of focus. We also haven’t been getting much sleep in the Torney household. As you can see by the photos of Master Koby he is once again cutting two teeth at once. That will make 4 in the space of 3-4 week. I also love, love, love when his little tootsies curl.

This next sneak peek is going to be a big one as I just couldn’t choose which images of these two gorgeous children to blog! Sometimes I think people really don’t believe that I give away as much as I do here on my blog, that perhaps it is some kind of scam or marketing ploy. Well, it's not and these images were taken as a result of Rebecca voting in my ’09 in Rewind’ competition. Rebecca won herself the complimentary session as well as a $100 voucher to spend on products. Rebecca and Travis just recently tied the knot after having been together for a very, very long time. Hollole Family Bush Session | Melbourne Lifestyle and Family Photographer

On the weekend I had the pleasure of photographing the Hollole family on location in the bush of the You Yangs just outside of Werribee. Andrew and Meagan have swapped the thrills of rally driving for the spills of mountain biking and it’s a passion that has connected them even more as a family as it’s a sport that their son Miles can participate in with them. Well, Miles is only 4 and a half and is already taking on jumps that some older riders baulked at. So here are, a sneak peek with a difference today…and I must admit, this session left me a little bit tireder and sorer than normal – chasing after such an energetic family. Size really does matter...| Melbourne Baby, Child and Teen Photographer

Please excuse the lack of blogging lately, I spent most of this week in bed with a nasty virus…so nasty in fact that my beautiful box of 30x40” canvas prints sat unopened in my studio for more than a day! I am so, so happy that I took the time to order some images of my own two children (finally) and I was blown away with just how AWESOME images look at this size. They are not intimidating at all; they actually fill the wall space nicely. This is something to consider when looking at what size canvas to order; will it be proportion to your wall space? Previously I had a 20x24” canvas up on one of these walls and it just got lost in all the space. Considering the most popular flat screen TV size sold is the 42” screen a you would think a 30x40” canvas would also be the most popular choice when it comes to ordering a canvas, right? Wrong. I wonder why this is. I wonder why we don’t value our family or our memories as much as we do a flat screen TV and proudly display something similar in size on the walls of our homes. SO when it comes time to order, if you are in doubt, just do it, I am SO glad I did! (Please excuse the bad product photography and messy rooms won’t you!) Chrissy xo

A few important announcements | Pay It Forward Project & Good Friday Appeal

A few important things…

Firstly, I need to announce the winner of my Pay It Forward Project. I need to start by saying, this was an extremely emotional journey for me and I was touched by each and every one of the nominations. There are lots of people out there with tremendous personal struggles, trials and tribulations. I shed many tears reading through the stories but I have come out the other side totally and utterly in awe of just how strong the human spirit can be. How amazing the Human Spirit is.

The decision was tough.

If I could, I would shoot everyone who was nominated because in their own rights they are each deserving.

However, the Custom Portrait Package valued at over $1000 goes to a deserving Mum of Two: Silvana – Nominated by her friend Stacey Wardrop.

“Silvana has had a very stressful 2nd pregnancy after a trouble free 1st pregnancy. Her waters broke at 20 weeks and she was rushed to hospital and ordered to complete bedrest in hospital for the remainder of her pregnancy. Obst and midwives regularly told her to expect the worst. As you can imagine, it was an extremely distressing time as she was placed in the labour ward for the duration of her hospital stay so she often heard crying babies and saw proud mummies pushing their newborns around. After lying in hospital for 10 weeks not knowing what the result would be she went into labour at 30 weeks and her baby daughter Neve was delivered by emergency c-section. The baby went to neo-natal intensive care and after a week Silvana returned home to her husband and little boy Logan (close to 2). A few days after returning home Silvana was re-admitted with golden staph and remained in hospital for around 5 days on a drip. Throughout that time Silvana was extremely ill as her body was not responding to high doses of antibiotics. She had been on antibiotics for 10 weeks whilst in hospital before delivering. She is now home again. Neve was doing well and was moved out of intensive neo-natal but still remains in hospital. Neve is now 35 weeks. Last week the hospital called Silvana and said Neve was struggling with her oxygen levels and things were not looking good. When Silvana arrived she was again warned to expect the worst. For 3 days she watched little Neve lying in her crib with tubes and breathing apparatus, limp and lifeless. She finally improved yesterday. I spoke to Silvana today and she said she feels totally emotionally and physically exhausted and cries non-stop. I feel totally helpless as a friend.
Silvana is extremely family-minded coming from a large Italian family. Along with her own very personal struggle she is trying to be strong for her family and a very close friend. Her brother-in-law is in palliative care with an inoperable brain tumour and just prior to Christmas her best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. Silvana is finding it difficult to come to terms with all the sadness around her and feels guilty that she is not able to be there for her sister and best friend.
I know a photographic session with the 3 most important people in her world (her husband David, Logan and Neve) would be a priceless gift.”

Little Princesses - 10 months old | Melbourne Baby and Child Photographer

Today I thought I had better chance up my friendly neighbours so I could take the next lot of photos of their twin daughters Evelyn and Gaia. I cannot believe these little Princesses are just 2 months shy of their first birthday! Their hair has grown and they are now on the move. Evelyn has definitely blossomed now her exhema is under control, she is FULL of smiles and laughter. Gaia is as cheeky as ever, CONSTANTLY on the go!! The girls are ‘Big Sisters in Training’ with another beautiful baby currently growing away inside it’s surrogate on the other side of the globe. You may have already heard this news from the quick 60 minutes update which aired on Sunday night. I would just like to mention how Trevor and Peter have been working tirelessly with other couples guiding them and assisting them through the surrogacy process. Pay It Forward 2010 | The Gift of Portraiture

I am truly so very lucky to be able to do what I do. I am also truly blessed to have a healthy, happy family along with financial security. There are a lot of kind people in my life who have done amazing things for me as well as have been incredibly supportive of all the things I choose to do. This is why I believe that it is important to give back in some way every year, to ‘Pay it Forward’ so to speak. My ‘Pay It Forward’ project for 2010 is this: To offer the gift of Custom Portraiture to a deserving person/family. Do you know someone who may be finding things a little bit tough, who may not, for one reason or another, be able to afford to do something special for themselves? Do you know of anyone, a friend or family member, who may just need a special pick-me-up due to facing a difficult period? Baby Saskia - 20 Days New | Melbourne Newborn and Baby Photographer

Baby Saskia has had a pretty tough journey so far, spending her first week and a bit in the Special Care Nursery. Saskia was born to my beautiful ‘Sunset Maternity’ client Cathy and after needing to reschedule her original session we were finally able to catch up and capture her beautiful little soul. Saskia *thankfully* was quite content with her own Mother’s milk so settled really well for me. FINALLY we have broken the drought of baby girls and I have been able to shoot a teeny, tiny little Princess instead of these active, wide awake boys of late. Cathy, once again it has been an absolute pleasure, I hope that you love these!! Shooting these really did bring a tear to my eye. Ed – hope you enjoyed the Foxtel and Nanna Nap! Chrissy xo

Mr Koby just this week decided it’s WAY cool to sit on your own. This way he can dribble and drool to his heart’s content without worrying about having to lie in it. I love this boy. His giggle is infectious and nothing ever gets him down. He also cut 2 bottom teeth last week and he didn’t even flinch. Miss Olivia Fashionista | Melbourne Child and Lifestyle Photographer

It feels like ‘forages’ since I have shot a lifestyle session. I LOVE these sessions as it means I get to simply hang out with cool kids and play! Olivia attends the same daycare as my Paigey Girl and the two are finally back in the same room together this year. Olivia has always caught my eye as her fashion sense is amazing – she really IS a little fashionista!! This was the booking I was squealing with excitement about – I have actually been waiting and waiting ever so patiently to be asked to photograph Olivia and when I got Mum’s call I almost burst! Little Master Harrison is my first 2010 newborn off the ranks – he decided today that sleep was overrated. Poor thing though was so confused continually having to smell breastmilk and not be able to drink it! Let’s just say, he tried as hard as he could to feed from me instead of falling asleep. OK, just a quick share as I do have to rush off to collect my own little babies from daycare! Fiona, Byron and Jacob – a pleasure as always! Chrissy xo

*sigh* I truly am humbled that clients trust me enough to book me sight unseen from a different state altogether. I have just returned from a quick working trip to Sydney where I held some sessions in my ‘home’ of Penrith. My husband is Werribee born and breed whereas I lived for 18 years in the valley of the Blue Mountains so we always have a little State rivalry going on. I sincerely had forgotten just how serene and beautiful the valley is not to mention green and lush. Melbourne folks, seriously, it is almost florescent compared to our dusty, brown land! Anyhow, back on track…Belinda jumped to hire me when she found out I was booking Sydney sessions – when she turned up on location I literally gasped out loud as her 3 gorgeous children were retrieved from their car seats. Victoria, Logan and Dean were fantastic supermodels for me, we got to collect flowers and play pirates. What a brilliant job I have!! Master Ewan | Melbourne and Sydney Baby Photographer

Eliza and I have know each other online for a number of years but the weekend was the first time we have met in person. Ewan and my Koby are only a few days apart in age but I was so impressed with all the clever, tricky things Master Ewan was already doing like rocking on all fours and aaaaaaaalmost sitting on his own. Ewan was ever so serious on this day, unfortunately he was napping in the car upon his arrival and had to be woken. There were no smiles for me no matter how much baby magic I tried to do…the smiles of the day were reserved for his best friend Monkey plus a few here and there for Mummy and Daddy. Eliza, it was so wonderful to finally meet one of my fellow July Mummies, I hope these were worth the wait. Chrissy xo

Sunset Maternity - Cathy's Sneak Peek | Melbourne Pregnancy and Maternity Photographer

Beau-ty -| noun: A quality present in a thing or person or something else such as a personality in which high spiritial qualities are manifest. This is the perfect definition of my latest maternity client. Cathy is such a beautiful soul and this is reflected in her smile, her laugh and her relationships with her husband and children. This is the third time I have had the honour in photographing Cathy, 'Ed', Xavier and Giselle and each time is more fun than the last. I squealed with excitement when Cathy booked me for her maternity and newborn session, I just love this family and wish I could take them home with me. Now, some of my regular couple poses weren't working for Cathy and 'Ed' so I asked them if they had any little rituals or routines we could try and incorporate. They explained how every night they fall asleep back to back holding each other's pinky finger. Aaaaaaaw, isn't that just so romantic. So once we switched the pose we got the magical shot! I have also included what's become my signature maternity pose, simply because I think this pose is so flattering to the Mum-to-be and they all look GEORGOUS and so serene in this pose. We also headed on down to Werribee South Beach to grab some sunset shots. It’s a little tricky to grab the sunset over the water down there so we have to think a little outside the square. A special thanks to the two random fishermen who so nicely moved off the end of the pier for us so we could grab the shots. Cathy, it was a pleasure once again to work with you. I hope the next few weeks fly and we will all get to meet the special little person inside you soon! Xo Chrissy

It wasn't until I started creating the montage for this competition that I realised just how busy I was this year! 28 sessions as well as fitting in Maternity Leave in amongst them all. Sneak Peek - James and Danielle | Melbourne Pregnancy and Maternity Photographer

Nothing excites me more than when my maternity clients turn up for their session with their hubby in tow. You can imagine my excitement when not only did this hubby come along for the session but said he was pretty much up for anything. Excuse me? Up for aaaaaanything?? Cool!! I really think James is up there to win my prestigious ' husband participation award' - actually, no such awards exists but I do like teasing the boys about it. One of the best things about my job is seeing the loving connection between two people and knowing that this connection has produced this tiny little miracle awaiting to be born. This little baby has chosen such loving and fun people to be its parents and I know this parenting gig will be that little bit easier for James and Danielle as they have that spark, that special connection, humour and laughter, which will make those sleepless nights that little bit easier to get through. Rain, Rain, Go Away (again) | Melbourne Maternity, Child and Family Photographer

*Phew* - we made this session just in the nick of time, as it started spitting just as this family drove off at the end of their session. Whilst all of my families are special to me, this one is extra special! This is the second time I have photographed this lovely family. I took their portraits just over 12 months ago when Master J was only 3 months old (photo added below). Fiona and Byron are now expecting their second baby so today was not only a chance to update their family photos, but to grab some quick maternity shots of the georgous Mum to Be. Fiona actually wins all of my browny points as not only did she enter my January portrait competition over 20 times, she is also the first to comment on any blog or facebook updates. To know that she values what I do so much to take such an interest is extremely special to me.

My sweet Koby boy is already 4 and a half months old - someone please slow time down, he is growing way to quickly!! Yesterday whilst waiting for my poor clients who were stuck in traffic I decided to make the most of my location and take a few snaps of Koby. I love this shot as not only is he experiencing his first touch of green grass, it has captured him doing what he does pretty much ALL day long and that's sucking on his fingers or whole hand! It's always such a compliment when clients are prepared to travel for hours to have their portraits taken however I am sure about an hour into the trip, today's client was more than likely cursing my Werribee location. Considering the shocking traffic in Melbourne of late, I am suprised they made it at all! Miss Emma and my Paigey Girl are only a few days apart and I haven't seen Emma since she was around 4 months old. Nathan is the latest addition to the family and would you believe at only 7 months old he has already had TWO haircuts! Sarah - thank you again for trecking all the way over the other side of town today. I hope you love these! I will be in touch! xo Chrissy
Now, I need to quickly thank a few more people for today. Firstly - THANK YOU to Hedde and John for the use of your stunning garden for today's session, I really appreciate you forgoing your privacy for a few hours today. Secondly - I really need to thank my georgous children for their patience today, especially my little assistant, Koby! Koby had to be woken quite early today to not only drop his sister off at daycare, but to do the balloon pick up with me and get to the location on time. He then patiently hung out during the session even as the day started to warm up. Thank you my georgous boy xo

Cracknall Family Sneak Peeks | Melbourne Child and Family Photographer

It was a hot, hot sunny Sunday afternoon but this family were still up for a play at the beach! Mason was one of the BEST pirates I have ever had the pleasure of shooting down at this particular location. Gemma was a princess who did not want to let go of her sparkly handbag and was a little camera shy, but towards the end of the session, when I was packing my gear away, she decided it was time to have some fun...so out came the camera again!!

I love that this family were happy to try my take on a not so traditional Christmas shot - cue seaweed in place of mistletoe.

Hoffman Family | Melbourne Family and Child Photographer

Well, it was a glorious Melbourne afternoon when I met with the Hoffman family to take their family portraits. Lewis and Jude are two of the most handsome little boys and were such a pleasure to work with. Unfortunately, they weren't quite their usual selves on the day. I thought that perhaps they were both plumb tuckered after their visit to the RAAF Museum before their session, but Mum informed me that later that night Lewis came down with a temperature. I still managed to grab some beautiful shots of these spunky little guys, oh and it was also Jude's first time seeing the ocean.

Little Princesses - 6 months Old | Melbourne Child and Baby photographer

So once again I have had the honour of capturing the next lot of snaps of my georgous neighbours Evelyn and Gaia who are now 6 months old (I know, can you believe it!!). Today was such a sticky, humid day, so much that my hair was an unruley mess and I was suprised the Dads even let me in the house. The girls were so cooperative and had smiles for the camera! The Dads did a good job too, putting up with my need for perfection and being ever so patient.

For those of you who have been asking, I still think Gaia is a little bit cheekier than Evelyn. When I tried to shoot them side by side all she wanted to do was eat her sister's hand.

So here are some sneak peeks from today's session!

Trevor and Peter, I hope these make your hearts sing, they are two very special little girls. Thanks for inviting me to do this once again.

I think this little guy was my hardest customer ever. No matter what I tried I was not going to get a smile, however, he eventually caved and we go a few smiley shots!

I was contacted by Ayden's mum Lisa to take some photos of her special little guy on whom she was writing an aticle on his Microtia ( http://www.microtiaaustralia.org.au ). I immediately jumped at the chance to photograph such a cutie (although a Bomber's Fan!).

Today I had the pleasure of photographing James and his big brother Thomas. You may remember James' first photo shoot was at the hospital @ 2 days old http://chrissytorney.blogspot.com/2009/10/stork-has-been-again-welcome-james.html James was such a trooper, falling asleep for me (yay me!) and Thomas was the ever happy big brother, taking such great care of his little mate during the shot of them together. James has so much hair and the most georgous peach fuzz on his shoulders and back - he is adorable and I could have cuddled him all day.

Cloudy, overcast days may make for dull coloured images - but they do make for yummy black and whites. Today I had the pleasure of photographing Master C and his little sister Miss O on their georgous property on the outskirts of Melbourne. The views and scenery were to die for and I immediately fell in love with their American Style home. Let's just say I could very easily live their myself! This was my first official session back from Maternity Leave for complete strangers but I must admit these two kept me so busy not once did I think of my little ones back at home.
